Our Story & Philosophy
YAPA was created with the idea of promoting Bolivian culture and heritage by combining traditional Andean craftsmanship with contemporary designs to create 100% baby alpaca knitwear sustainably and ethically made by artisan knitters in Bolivia and designed in New York by Bernarda Pelaez our founder.
La Paz - Bolivia is where each of our 100% baby alpaca sweaters and accessories is handcrafted by exceptional artisans using centuries old knitting techniques. All our knits are carefully finished and many also hand embroidered.
Treasured by the ancient Inca civilization, alpacas and alpaca fiber have been part of the Andean and Bolivian culture for centuries.
YAPA aims to promote the Bolivian artisan industry, increase fair and safe job opportunities and contribute to a more ethical and sustainable fashion industry.
Our knits are seasonless basics with a fun twist that are meant to last. Our goal is to design fewer pieces made in a better way. We believe quality is an investment in the future and that clothing ought to be made in a mindful way. Less waste and less pollution.
YAPA illustrates a vision of contemporary fashion influenced by our Bolivian heritage and culture, reflecting the roots and magic of our Andean origins in each of our pieces.
